A Fine French Small-Sword With Chiselled And Gilt Hilt

With slender sharply tapering blade of hollow triangular section bright over most of its length to the point, the forte etched and gilt against a blued ground on one side with a trophy of arms between foliage above a gilt oval panel inscribed 'Me Fecit Solingen', the other side inscribed en suite and with a differing trophy of arms between a wreath and crossed palms, the foliage inhabited by a bird, hilt of characteristic form (one shell with minute hole) chiselled in low relief against a finely punched and tooled gilt ground with differing trophies of arms within wreaths, surrounded by C-scrolls and with borders of garlands, grip bound with finely twisted steel wire between Turk's heads, and retaining most of it original gilding
