A French Silver-Hilted Small-Sword
Paris Silver Marks For 1770

With sharply tapering blade of hollow triangular section changing to flattened hexagonal section over a third of its length to the point, the forte on each side etched and gilt against a blued ground (some wear and rust patination) with a martial trophy and panels of foliage above a panel of foliated strapwork, characteristic hilt retaining some original gilding and cast and chased in low relief with foliage and rocailles framing oval cartouches containing flowers, all against finely stippled grounds partly pierced with trellis-work, and grip bound with silver ribbon and twisted silver wire
