Two Continental Steel-Hilted Small Swords
Late 17th/Early 18th Century, The First Probably Dutch

The first with slender tapering blade (some pitting) of flattened diamond section over most of its length, the forte of flattened hexagonal section with two recessed keyhole piercings within brass-inlaid borders, the spaces between inlaid with brass foliage, characteristic hilt encrusted with silver demi-figures, cherub's heads and male profile heads, all against a ground of gold-encrusted scrolling foliage and trophies, and later grip bound with twisted silver and brass wire between brass Turk's heads (worn overall); the second with slender tapering blade of stiff diamond section, and plain russet steel hilt of characteristic form (surface rust) (2)
