A Ceylonese Piha Kaetta
18th Century

Of characteristic form, with single-edged blade inlaid in brass with a monster-head and foliage along each side at the beaked point (some pitting), fullered along the back over each side from the forte and set with silver embossed and chased with running foliage, hilt comprising foliate brass basal mount inlaid with engraved interlaced silver foliage, and horn grips carved with foliage and set with foliate silver mounts including pommel-cap with button finial, in its original fluted two-piece wooden scabbard with silver locket (minor damage) with filigree borders
