Three Javanese Kris
19th Century, The Blades Earlier

The first with pattern-welded seven lok blade chiselled with a gold-encrusted dragon (Naga) on one side beneath the ganja and with gold tongue, its tail forming the dada along each side, the ganja encrusted with gold foliage, small gold filigree mendak, and characteristic carved planar hilt, in its wooden scabbard with figured boat-shaped sarongan (chipped) and silver-gilt pendoq (minor damage), the latter embossed and chased along the outside with repeated panels of symmetrical foliage variously inhabited by an elephant, dragons and birds; the other two of similar but plainer form, one scabbard with plain white-metal pendoq open along one side revealing pelet wood (3)
