An Officer's Spadroon Of The Royal Dublin Volunteers
Late 18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade (some old rust patination and areas of pitting) of flattened hexagonal section over most of its length, the forte etched and gilt with pre-1801 royal arms and 'For My Country & King' over both sides, the latter between foliage, russet steel hilt comprising side-guard, knuckle-guard pierced for a ring at the top, lobed rear quillon, faceted urn-shaped pommel, reeded ivory grip (minor old splits) with medial border engraved silver band engraved 'RD' over 'V' within a crowned motto belt on one side, and 'REGT' on a banner on the other
