A 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's Sabre
By Thompson, Birmingham, Circa 1805

Of regulation pattern, the blade (light rust patination, tip with some pitting) etched and gilt with a cavalryman and crowned 'GR' cypher beneath a baldachin surmounted by foliage on one side, and on the other with a trophy of martial arms, pre-1801 royal arms and motto, and flowering foliage, the forte with bladesmith's name in an arch beneath foliage on one side, and 'Birmingham' en suite on the other, and ribbed leather-covered grip (some wear) bound with twisted silver wire, in its original steel scabbard (pitted)
