A Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre Of 1788 Pattern Type
Late 18th Century

With bright curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point, steel hilt comprising bluntly pointed langets, small downbent rear quillon terminal, tapering knuckle-guard, beaked pommel-cap and back-piece in one, and cord-bound leather-covered grip (minor old worming and losses), in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather (some loss of surface) with deep locket and chape (pitted and painted black, the latter incomplete above the shoe on one side) retaining traces of engraved line decoration, and two rings for suspension
