With curved pipe-back blade (old pitting) with double-edged 'quill' point, the forte etched along one side with maker's details and crowned royal arms amid foliage, the latter above a lion, and on the other with Prosser's deeply stamped crowned proof mark centred on further maker's details, the owner's crest and motto surmounted by a crowned fouled anchor above, regulation gilt-bass hilt of simulated bars against a stippled ground and incorporating a fouled crowned anchor in an oval, lion-head pommel and faceted back-piece in one, and wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, in its steel scabbard (some old pitting and repairs) now painted black and with linear engraved brass mounts retaining some gilding, the locket engraved 'Prosser to H.R.H. Prince Albert, Charing Cross London' on one side

The crest and motto appears to be that of Nott. A John Neale Nott (b. 1800) joined the Royal Navy in 1812 and was promoted to Captain in 1842
John Prosser is recorded at 9 Charing Cross, London between 1796 and 1853. He was a leading royal sword cutler, beltmaker and gunsmith. He was appointed Sword-Cutler and Belt-Maker to George III in 1795, to George IV in 1820, to William IV in 1830 and to Queen Victoria in 1837, the year of his death
