The first with curved blade (point reduced) with wide central fuller on both sides, the forte etched and re-gilt against a reblued ground over both sides with a crowned order above a star and a martial trophy, the back of the blade etched and gilt 'Pierre Guillaume Knecht Fabriquant à Solingen', regulation brass hilt (repairs) of two side-bars swept-up to join the knuckle-guard, ovoidal langets, downbent lobed rear quillon, pommel-cap and back-piece in one, and leather-covered grip (old wear) bound with twisted copper wire, in later English brass scabbard for a mameluke-hilted sabre; the second with curved fullered blade (old pitting), the forte etched and gilt against a reblued ground on each side with martial trophies and foliage, regulation brass hilt (knuckle-guard and tang button replaced) including waisted pommel with fluted domed top, and figured grip chequered over each side (2)
