A French 1st Empire Officer's Walking Out Sword Of The Chevau-Legers Lancers
Early 19th Century

With bright sharply tapering blade fullered over most of its length and double-edged at the point, the forte on both sides (some old surface rust) etched and gilt with a martial trophy and foliage against a blued ground, ormolu hilt comprising boat-shell guard, short quillons of swelling rectangular section, knuckle-guard hooked into the peak of the pommel, the latter shaped in the round as a plumed lancer's helmet, and swelling figured grip chequered over both sides, in its original leather scabbard with gilt-brass locket (chape missing)
