A .376 (80-Bore) Percussion Sporting Rifle
Signed Inshaw, Probably Joseph Of Ludlow, Salop, Circa 1830

With rebrowned octagonal sighted smooth-bore barrel (remains of old pitting), octagonal breech, engraved tang, signed border engraved back-action lock (hammer replaced) decorated with foliage inhabited by a pheasant, figured half-stock (some wear, old split along one side of the fore-end) with cheek-piece and chequered grip, the former inset with engraved white-metal crossed quiver and arrows, mounts comprising white-metal shaped foliate engraved side-nail plate, border engraved hinged ovoidal patch-box cover (spring-catch replaced) decorated with a trophy of arms between an engraved prone stag and a panel of foliage, foliate engraved curved white-metal butt-plate incorporating the patch-box release-button along the bottom, steel scroll trigger-guard engraved with foliage and with pineapple-shaped finial, vacant escutcheon, white-metal fore-end cap, and steel ramrod, possibly original
