The crest is probably that of Gilbert Stephen Elliot of the Elliot family of Minto, Co. Roxburgh, Scotland
Following the death of his father, William, to whom Thomas Boss (1790-1857) was apprenticed, the famous John Manton kept him on and later employed him as a journeyman. In 1816 he set up as a truss and gunmaker and carried out work for James Purdey as an outworker. He was at 73 St. James's Street between 1842 and 1859 and the business carries on to this day as Thomas Boss & Co. Ltd.
