A Cased 15-Bore Percussion D.B. Sporting Gun
By Gasquoine & Dyson, Market Place, Manchester, No. 1438, Circa 1860

With rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed in full in gothic script and serial numbered along the rib, border engraved breeches each with pierced platinum plug and decorated with a blackcock on the rib between, tang engraved with foliate scrollwork, serial numbered locks each signed in capitals on a foliated scroll and each with a differing gundog pursuing a blackcock amid scrolling foliage, serial numbered dolphin hammers decorated with foliate scrollwork, figured half-stock (butt with some old bruising) with chequered grip and fore-end, steel mounts comprising butt-plate engraved with foliate scrollwork along the heel tang, serial numbered trigger-guard, trigger-plate finial and rear ramrod-pipe finial all decorated en suite, shield-shaped vacant gold escutcheon, and original brass-mounted ramrod: in original lined and fitted brass-mounted mahogany case (female part of lock missing) with James Dixon & Sons powder-flask with reeded copper body, and G. & J.W. Hawksley shot-flask, the interior of the lid with maker's illustrated trade label (some staining), the exterior with circular vacant brass escutcheon centred on a flush-fitting circular brass carrying handle, London proof marks
