An 18-Bore Percussion D.B. Sporting Gun
Signed Portlock, Pontefract, Mid-19th Century

With rebrowned twist sighted barrels signed in capitals along the rib, breeches each with gold line, foliate engraved tang, signed border engraved flat locks decorated with foliage, dolphin hammers en suite, figured half-stock with chequered grip, steel mounts comprising butt-plate decorated with a gundog and foliage on the heel tang, trigger-guard decorated en suite on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and steel-tipped ramrod, Birmingham proof marks; together with leather cartridge magazine (some damage), the interior of the lid (detached, straps missing) with gilt trade label of T. Hepplestone, Gun, Rifle & Pistol Manufacturers, Manchester, the exterior with brass escutcheon engraved with owner's name 'ALFRED LEACH, ROCHDALE', circa 1900, and a Stanley Ferrostat flask, in its leather case with suspension strap (3)
