A Balkan (Souliot) 20-Bore Flintlock Pistol With Silver Stock
19th Century

With plain barrel chiselled with foliage at the breech and struck with three brass-lined marks at the breech, tang covered with a silver-gilt plate originally extending over the breech and cast and chased with a shell and foliage, border engraved rounded lock decorated with a monster and with a bridle over the steel-spring (action defective), heavy full-stock with tapering slightly curved butt cast and chased overall in relief with flower-heads, scallop shells and scrollwork highlighted with small nielloed panels, bulbous pommel en suite and with pierced foliate terminal, trigger-guard and muzzle-sleeve (minor repair) all en suite, gilt trigger cast in the round as an Epirot in contemporary costume drawing his dagger, false ramrod also en suite, and traces of original gilding (iron parts with minor rust patination)
