An Unusual Persian 20-Bore Flintlock Pistol In The English Fashion, And A Turkish 20-Bore Flintlock Holster Pistol
Both 19th Century

The first with twist octagonal sighted barrel (polished bright) with white-metal line at the breech and rifled with eight grooves, foliate engraved tang, border engraved flat bevelled lock with spurious signature and decorated with foliage at the stepped tail, pierced engraved cock, semi-rainproof pan and roller, figured half-stock inlaid with silver wire scrollwork and flower-heads around the barrel tang, and with silver wire bordering the chequering on the swelling butt, border engraved steel mounts comprising pierced foliate side-plate, pommel-cap with a flower-head centred on the retaining screw, trigger-guard with pineapple finial and foliage on the bow, fore-end cap also forming the ramrod-entry, and later wooden ramrod; the second with swamped two-stage barrel (pitted) encrusted with silver foliage between brass bands at the breech, border engraved tang, bevelled lock en suite with the breech, figured full stock inlaid with brass wire scrollwork (some losses, particularly along the fore-stock), mounts (escutcheon missing) comprising brass side-plate cast and chased with foliage, spurred pommel cast and chased with martial trophies, engraved steel trigger-guard (tang pitted), and wooden ramrod (2)
