A Rare French Officer's Pot Helmet

Second Quarter Of The 17th Century
Of blackened iron, with rounded two-piece skull with low turned comb flanked by slender double incised lines, the back of the skull (small hole on one side) with large elaborately pierced brass plume-holder surmounted by three fleur-de-lys and secured by rivetted brackets each pierced with two holes, the base of the skull, bluntly-pointed neck-guard of four simulated upward-lapping lames and pointed peak all with double incised line borders followed by a row of dome-headed brass rivets, two small brass fixed rings on the left side above the ear, and turned borders (some old rust patination)
