A Very Rare Small Spanish Gothic Casket
Late 15th/Early 16th Century

With wooden body of rectangular form with domed lid, entirely covered in cuir-boulli (minor losses) tooled with a slashed design on the back and sides, the front tooled with foliage against punched grounds, the lid decorated en suite and involving a scroll bearing Gothic inscriptions, blackened iron mounts comprising cusped reinforcing-straps with bevelled edges, secured by iron tacks and with pointed and forked terminals, the lid with plain side mounts, the front mount with cusped upper edge and interrupted for the hinged hasp engaging with the lock, the latter with hinged bracket secured by a triangular padlock, and slender drop handle of diamond section with central moulding
11.5 cm. high x 17.5 cm. wide x 11.5 cm. deep
