The body of polished natural cowhorn incised with scrimshaw work retaining much of its red and green pigment and depicting two figures in a howdah mounted on an elephant, framed by branches of foliage surmounted by a crown, Scottish thistles either side of a landscape scene below, and with three sailing ships, three baronial halls and a steam train entering a station pulling three passenger carriages and a further carriage for a horse-drawn carriage, turned basal mount and top, the latter stamped 'PATENT' and with adjustable nozzle, and two suspension mounts
