An Iberian Powder-Horn
19th Century

Formed from a section of cowhorn stained brown overall and carved in relief with a sportsman firing his miquelet-lock longarm, the remaining surfaces inhabited by birds and animals including a seven-headed serpent, a bull, a goat, dogs, a tortoise and a fish, and with a knotted design and a fruiting tree, the top reduced and fitted in its working life with a G. & J.W. Hawksley white-metal top with adjustable nozzle or '2¼' to '3 Drams', white-metal base plate, and two rings for suspension
