An Arabian Silver-Mounted Shamshir
19th Century

With bright curved single-edged blade with false double-edge to the point in front of the yelman, hilt comprising quillon-block with pointed langets and bud-shaped quillon terminals, silver-covered grip engraved with panels of foliage and with bands of filigree along the inner and outer sides, all secured by silver wire at the base, and beaked pommel-cap chased with designs of foliage, in original wooden scabbard covered in leather with silver wire seam along the inside and deep silver locket and chape (button worn through) each chased with repeated designs of foliage, the suspension mounts engraved with a flower-head on a boss on both sides and each carrying a ring (one loose) for the original suspension cords and tassels (worn)
