With tapering double-edged blade cut with a series of notches along each edge over its entire length and incised with a running wolf mark on both sides, the forte incised 'FRANCISCO' within the shallow fuller on one side, and 'EN TOLEDO' on the other, iron hilt retaining some of its original japanned and gilt finish and comprising side-rings and knuckle-guard each with double central swelling, the former each filled with a plate pierced with numerous small circles, the latter with scrolled side bars joining the side-rings on each side and hooked into the pommel-cap at the top, lion-mask pommel-cap surmounted by a prominent button, and fluted beaked wooden grip retaining much of its red lacquered finish and reinforced with a longitudinal iron strap along each side
