A Scottish Basket-Hilted Broadsword

With tapering double-edged blade cut with a double central fuller over most of its length on each side, the fullers at the forte each incised 'ANDRIA FERARA' between double 'x' marks, iron guard of flat rectangular section bars framing fretted rectangular and ovoidal panels lightly incised with lines and borders, and pierced with stylised hearts and circles, the main panels centred on saltires, the side panels each incorporating a 'ram's horn' with heart-shaped terminal, and with oval aperture for reins, fore-guards and rear guard, scrolled wrist-guard, bun-shaped pommel with incised triple lines and separate tang button, spirally-fluted fishskin-covered grip (wire binding missing), and retaining its buff-leather liner (some old rust patination)
