The present lot is an iconic example of Michael Cardew's work in form and decoration. Created with the throwing technique favoured by the potter, Cardew completes the work with a white background slip, biscuit firing, and annotated with brushwork. It is the brushwork that has made Cardew's work distinctive from the rest of the school, first employed by the potter during his formative years in England and professionally, Winchcombe.
