Provenance
Acquired directly from the Abuja Pottery Training Centre;
A private collection.
Studying alongside Ladi Kwali just one year prior to her being appointed as an Instructor at the Pottery Centre, Abu Karo from Keffi was appointed as an Apprentice Potter in 1959 and may well have taken instruction directly from Kwali. Bearing the stamp 'AK' to the underside of the face of the bowl, the present work displays dollar signs inscribed onto the slip of the lid and outer face of the bowl. This characterful and fun design gives a sense of the creative liberty to the individual and the experimental environment that apprentices such as Karo were working in.
