SZYK, ARTHUR. 1894-1951.

The Haggadah. London: Beaconsfield Press, Limited, [1940] 4to, full crushed blue morocco signed by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, with pictorial emblem gilt to front and rear, gilt-filleted turn-ins, pictorial endpapers, title page in red and black, color frontispiece, all pages double-vellum, right-hand pages in Hebrew with color illuminations, English translation on left-hand pages printed in red and black, 10 x 11 1/4 in. In original 3/4-morocco clamshell case.

Stated on title page: "Executed by Arthur Szyk, edited by Cecil Roth". Signed by Szyk and Roth on limitation page, number 59 of 125 copies "for sale in the United States of America."

In his introduction, Roth writes of Szyk, "To call him the greatest illuminator since the sixteenth century is no flattery."
