Footnotes

Provenance:
The vendor's father worked at London Airport as a Customs & Excise officer and told his son of the circumstances causing this letter to be written. The Lennons had flown into the airport on 14th July, from New York, and two large trunks of their clothing had been sent to the Cargo Centre to await Customs clearance. The vendor's father was the on-duty officer at the time and examined the shipment at the end of his shift, at 8pm that night, he requested an undertaking that all charges including his attendance would be met. This was obtained via the freight agent and the trunks were finally cleared and delivered to John and Yoko at Tittenhurst Park.
