STUYVESANT GRANTS LAND IN PENNSYLVANIA.

STUYVESANT, PETER. 1610-1672. Document signed ("P. Stuyvesant"), being a land grant to Jan Cornelissen Buys, in Dutch with 18th century English translation, Dec 4, 1654, oblong folio, 350 x 430 mm, folded in half. Browning and staining, residue from wax seal.

Stuyvesant was given broad authority by the Dutch West India Company to govern all Dutch possessions in North America, a power that he exercised tyrannically. He persecuted religious minorities, and drove Swedish colonists from Delaware. This land grant states "... We have given and granted unto Jan Cornelissen Buys a piece of land lying over the North River, between Pernoenapaen and Kil Van Koll, stretching along the river of Bay South West ... making all together twenty-five morgen...."
