4to (305 x 284 mm). Engraved folding map. Contemporary half brown morocco and marbled boards, rebacked with original spine laid down, renewed endpapers. Rubbed, some chipping to spine ends, fingermarks and a few stains, light browning.

FIRST EDITION. Fraser, a Scottish travel writer and artist, chronicled his journeys to India, Persia and Asia Minor. This journal describes a search for the sources of the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers in India. "It provides meticulous information on a variety of subjects — history, agriculture, flora and fauna, geology, ethnology, commerce, manufactures, mineralogy; information which was collected under conditions of extreme physical discomfort and at times danger..."
