LINCOLN BEFORE HIS PRESIDENCY.

LINCOLN, ABRAHAM. 1809-1865. Autograph Letter Signed ("A. Lincoln"), to B.S. Morris, being a letter of introduction for a colleague, 1 p, 8vo (approximately 195 x 125 mm), Springfield, Illinois, May 3, 1858, fold creases, minor soiling. Framed to 16 x 18 inches, mounted with a brass plaque and reproduction of a photographic portrait of Lincoln.

Lincoln writes as an attorney, rather than a politician, having returned to private practice after serving as a member of the House of Representatives. "Permit me to introduce my friend and brother lawyer Henry C. Whitney..., he writes. "He has gone into business in your city with Mr. Wallace, Judge Dickey's Late partner at Urbana in Champaigne County. He has been one of our cherished friends for the last three or four years." B.S. Morris was a prominent Chicago attorney.
