4 pp. Folio. Lithographed in Chinese except for one column in English. Some toning and creasing.

First Chinese newspaper published in San Francisco, this an early issue featuring an editorial in English on the "Chinese Exodus": "The great wonder of the century is the astonishing flight of the hitherto immobile Chinamen quitting the celestial empire—the paradise of earth ... to come and mingle in the search for yellow gold...."
