Small 4to (185 x 143 mm). Woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces, 4 pp woodcut illustrations (on 2 leaves) bound between Dd8 and Ee1. Re-cased in contemporary (presumed original) vellum, inked titles on spine. Extensive professional restorations to cover and contents, with entire text block re-margined at gutters and re-bound into vellum, front endpaper and title page repaired, repairs to several fore-edges and upper corners, browning, staining, ink annotations and doodles, lacking leaf A2 (beginning of "The Epistle").
Provenance: Martin Pacheco (Argentinian collector, bookplate tipped to new front free endpaper).

FIRST EDITION. Scot's exhaustive encyclopedia of contemporary beliefs about witchcraft, spirits, alchemy, magic and legerdemain was the first work in English to reveal tricks of the conjuror's trade, and just as importantly refuted the popular beliefs in witchcraft and demonology: "... the keystone of a conjuring collection..."
