Folio (560 x 364 mm). Tinted lithographic title with oval vignette, 27 tinted lithographic views on 11 sheets, engraved map. Publisher's cloth stamped in gilt and blind on upper cover. Rubbed and soiled, with losses to cloth at corners, contents slightly loose, some plates reinforced at hinges, marginal dampstain to lower inside corner throughout, foxing.
Provenance: The Max and Peter Allen Collection.

FIRST EDITION. Little is known of the author and artist, Lt. Colonel D.S. Dodgson, but the dedication to Lt. General James Outram suggests that Dodgson must have served under Outram in the Bengal Army during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (the "Indian Mutiny.") Abbey Travel 489.
