4to. 8 pp, paginated [113]-120. Small illustrations. Unbound on a single uncut sheet. Browned, some chipping at lower right corner.

Early issue of the first newspaper to be printed in Honolulu and the first to reach a general audience. "The Kumu Hawaii is of immense value to the Hawaiians ... This the natives themselves being to understand of if anyone has a manao [thought] which he considers it important to be made known he knows where to send it when it is all paa i ka pepa [put down on paper]" (Hall & Judd, 1839, quoted in Forbes). Most issues were 4 pages only, but the present is 8 pages. Forbes 903.
