A THEATER-MADE U.S.M.C. EAGLE, GLOBE AND ANCHOR PLAQUE.

Carved wooden plaque, 12 x 15 inches, reading semper fidelis above an eagle astride a globe intersected by an anchor, carved in relief and painted, the edges carved in a rope pattern with "Guadalcanal" at lower center. Provenance: Made on Guadalcanal, 1942/43; retained by unidentified US Marine veteran until 1980s; The War Museum, New York City; sold Bonhams, New York, to Zaricor Flag Collection, 2013.

A fine example of trench art, this one celebrating the U.S. Marines at Guadalcanal.
