German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen, 1928-2007, is generally considered to be one of the 20th century's most important and controversial composers. His work has had a significant impact on compositional techniques, performance and had greatly expanded the musical palette as a key figure in the early exploration of electronics in music, spatial audio, aleatoric compositional techniques, etc.
The present archive comes from the personal collection of Jonanthan Cott, author of critically acclaimed Stockhausen: Conversations with the Composer, published in 1973, and based on more than 40 hours of interviews conducted by Cott while he stayed at Stockhausen's home in Kürten, Germany for the month of September 1971. The two remained friends through the years and Cott visited Stockhausen at his home several more times and attended premiers of his compositions.
