The Birds of Asia. London: Taylor and Francis, for the Author, 1850-1883.
Volume 3 only. Folio (545 x 368 mm). 78 hand-colored lithographic plates. 20th century half red morocco and cloth, all edges gilt. Light scuffing and wear to binding, scattered foxing and browning, penciled plate numbers on upper corners.
Provenance: The Avicultural Society, T.H. Newman Bequest (bookplate dated 1944).

FIRST EDITION. Volume III of the most comprehensive work on Asiatic ornithology of its time, originally in 7 volumes, the last three completed after Gould's death. This volume covers a variety of passerine birds, including thrushes, bluebirds, blackbirds, dial birds, trochalopteron, and others.
