DODD, ROBERT. 1748-1815.

The mutineers turning Lt Bligh and some of the officers and crew adrift from His Majesty's Ship Bounty. London: B.B. Evans, 1790.
Hand-colored aquatint, 500 x 654 mm. Browning, chip along right margin, some old repairs.

FIRST EDITION. Dodd, a marine painter who portrayed numerous scenes from the Napoleonic Wars, was also an engraver; he produced aquatint prints of over 100 of his paintings. Although other marine artists of his time may have been held in higher artistic regard, his greatest contribution was probably his depiction of historic events.
