NAPOLEON WRITES ON HIS MILITARY VICTORIES.

BONAPARTE, NAPOLEON. 1769-1821. Letter Signed ("Np"), to Joseph Fouché, Duc d'Otrante, 2 pp recto and verso, 4to (230 x 189 mm), Dresden, August 30, 1813, fold creases, strip of paper adhered to left edge, light a few small stains and minor soiling.
Provenance: Augustin-Pierre Dubrunfaut (1797-1881, his sale, Charavay, January 29, 1883, lot 68).

AN IMPORTANT NAPOLEON LETTER TO FOUCHÉ REPORTING ON THE VICTORY AT DRESDEN. Giving details of their successes through Saxony, Napoleon closes by promising more great successes as the French army moved north. Written in what would be the closing days of the Napoleonic Wars, Napoleon's missive here to Fouché touting their success was calculated in part to keep Fouché's allegiance, forever in doubt. Unfortunately for both, Dresden would be Napoleon's last great victory.
