Folio (500 x 295 mm). 22 chromolithographic plates, highlighted in gold. Rebacked contemporary black pebbled cloth decorated in blind and stamped in gilt. Corners bumped, chips at spine ends, front hinge broken with spine separating from text block, extensive foxing throughout.

FIRST EDITION of this work on the costumes of dignitaries and personalities of the court of Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II (1808-1838). Brindesi lived in Istanbul during the reign of Sultan Abdulmejid in 1831. Atabey 151; Blackmer 206; Colas 446; Lipperheide 1438.
