WHITMAN'S PUBLISHER DAVID MCKAY ON COLLECTING WHITMAN.

Autograph Letter Signed ("David McKay") to a Reverend L.M. Powers, regarding acquiring a copy of the 1871-2 Leaves of Grass, and his willingness to trade from his own collection, 3 pp, recto only, 8vo (215 x 140 mm), Boston, September 3, 1897, on Parker House letterhead with "Old Berkshire Mills" watermarks, fold creases, light soiling.
Provenance: Collection of Pauline and Ozzy Fletcher; sold to our consignor.

McKay seeks the rare 1871-2 edition of Leaves and offers the autograph edition of Poetry and Prose, sold for $12 in boards, and his copy bound in fine 3/4 morocco and intended for exhibition. An interesting look at early Whitman collecting.
