Autograph Endorsement Signed ("Walt Whitman") on the verso of a check drawn on the "The East River National Bank" from A.T. Rice for $33.00, dated December 2, 1885, with bank stamps to the verso.
WITH: Printed Card, "Walt Whitman Fellowship" Supper Ticket, McConkey's Restaurant, May 31st 1916, all housed in an envelope from bookseller L. Weitz, 439 Madison Ave, New York, N.Y.
Provenance: Collection of Pauline and Ozzy Fletcher; sold to our consignor.

WHITMAN'S PAYMENT FOR HIS CONTRIBUTION TO RICE'S REMINISCENCES OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Whitman contributed a piece on Abraham Lincoln for publication in Allen Thorndyke Rice's Reminiscences of Abraham Lincoln (New York, 1886), containing recollections by U.S. Grant, Henry Ward Beecher, Charles A. Dana, and Walt Whitman, among others. He received this $33.00 check for the effort.
