Footnotes

After graduating in Japan, Hosono Hitomi (see also lot 819) studied in Denmark and England, where she interned at the Wedgwood factory, learning to attach molded components to the body of a piece before the clay has fully dried. She soon developed her own unique practice, taking molds of plant forms and then reworking them before applying them to a pre-thrown porcelain vessel until the underlying surface is completely hidden. Now based in London, Hosono's transnational creativity has earned her a worldwide audience. One of her largest works, which took six months to finish, is in the British Museum. For another piece by this artist, see lot 819.
