AN UNUSUAL PAINTED POTTERY FIGURE OF AN ATTENDANT

Tang dynasty
The figure delicately molded and knife-carved and wearing male attire of a red-painted winter coat with large un-painted lapels, the hands held together at the front above a slightly swelling belly that is tied tightly at the waist with a slender belt with a small pouch tied to one side, the robes falling in delicate folds, both to the front and back, and with knife-carved slits to the sides, above naturalistic leather boots, the head is modelled with feminine features and the hair is tied in a high double top-knot.
