The Royal Oak was first introduced in 1972 and was designed by one of the most famous watch designers Gerald Genta. Over the years Audemars Piguet have released numerous modifications whilst maintaining the key elements conceived by Genta. This respect to Genta's design has created a long lasting legacy that speaks to collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Fitted with a Calibre 2385, the 25860ST became the first chronograph in the Royal Oak family and was introduced in 1998. The calibre 2385 was based on the Frédéric Piguet 1185 which was designed around 10 years earlier.
Back in 1997, this model was unveiled to mark the Royal Oak's 25th anniversary and has remained faithful to the original size of the first Royal Oak "Jumbo", ref. 5402 (39MM).
Some of the first series dials have the ability to turn brown by developing a "Tropical" patina, like on the lot we offer.
