A U.S. CAPITOL-FLOWN AMERICAN FLAG PRESENTED TO GREG LOUGANIS.

United States 50-star flag, 36 x 60 inches (915 x 1525 mm), Dura-Lite by Dettra Flag, pieced nylon, header with two grommets, embroidered stars, minimal wear. Together with double-sided printed pamphlet from Dettra Flag "Only YOU Can Prevent Premature Flag Failure."

WITH: Typed Document Signed by George M. White, Architect of the Capitol, certifying that the present flag was "flown over the United States Capitol on June 27, 1984 at the request of the Honorable Andy Jacobs, Jr.," on printed "Flag of the United States of America" sheet, lightly thumbed. White writes, "This flag will be presented to you as a member of the 1984 United States Olympic Diving Team in recognition of your outstanding performance in the FINAL TRIALS for the GAMES of the XXIII Olympiad." Andy Jacobs was a Democratic Congressman representing Indiana's 10th district in 1984.

AND WITH: Typed Letter Signed by Strom Thurmond as President Pro-Tempore of the United States Senate congratulating Louganis on his gold medal wins at the 1984 Summer Olympics, 1 p, 4to, Washington, DC, September 12, 1984, on Senate letterhead. "Your outstanding performance at the Games truly proved that you deserve this high honor, and you can be proud of your contributions in making the United States Summer Olympic Team the best in history. / I know that I express the sentiment of our entire Nation by saying 'thank you' for helping America rekindle a deep sense of pride and unity. Indeed, your victory is our victory, and we are grateful for the years of hard work and discipline that you invested in realizing your success. Well done!"

Together with Certificate presenting the flag from the Woodmen of the World / Omaha Woodmen, a Fraternal Insurance Society "that believes strongly in Americanism and has an abiding faith in our nation's future because of young people such as you."
