TYLER MILITARY APPOINTMENT.

TYLER, JOHN. 1790-1862. Document Signed as President ("John Tyler") appointing Henry M. Judah as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, 1 p, folio, on vellum, Washington, February 17, 1845, with engraved vignette and wax seal, some staining and creasing overall, framed.

Henry M. Judah (1821-1866) was a career military officer who served in the Mexican American War and the U.S. Civil War. He is most remembered for his humanitarian efforts to distribute food in 1865 to the citizens of Marietta, GA who had not grown enough crops to feed the community during the previous year of conflict.
