12mo (168 x 100 mm). Contemporary sheep, lettering piece on spine. Heavily rubbed, browning and spotting, newspaper clippings laid down to flyleaves, ownership inscription (William A. Hamilton) on title page, rear free endpaper mostly torn away.

Pioneering work on modern pediatrics, published in several editions during the author's lifetime. Underwood, a male midwife, was the first to describe sclerema neonatorum, a.k.a. Underwood's disease. Evans 26291; Garrison-Morton-Norman 6326; Heirs of Hippocrates 1024.
