Observationum medicarum, libri tres. Amsterdam: Louis Elzevier, 1641.
8vo. (160 x 949 mm). 14 full-page engravings and 1 engraved vignette in text. 20th century vellum, yap edges, blank leaves inserted between each text leaf. Ink ownership stamps (S. de Jager) on front free endpaper and title, light spotting.

FIRST EDITION. Nicolaes Tulp was a Dutch surgeon and Mayor of Amsterdam. His inclusion in a painting by Rembrandt ensured his place in history, but Tulp is also remembered for signing the fitness reports for the first Dutch settlers on the island of Manhattan, and for writing, with some doctor and chemist peers, the first pharmacopoeia of Amsterdam, Pharmacopoea Amstelredamensis (1636).
